Univerticalist Manifesto

We proclaim our Manifesto declaring to the whole Universe the fundamental points of our belief, on which all the Univerticalist thought is based, and which pervades all our works.

1) The Art in the third millennium cannot be static! We Univerticalist artist can only conceive an art in movement. Life itself and the universe are like this, in the form of endlessly changing energy. The character of our works has this peculiarity in itself.

2) Everything changes, nothing dies. For us death – that is the last step of any vital cycle – is a necessary illusion in the cosmic process as the cyclical change from a material to an immaterial condition, and together with life they constitute the essential elements of existence. There Art is the fundamental instrument which permits the “Transformation”, therefore the evolution. Art is Creative Thought, Energy, Life. This noble Creative Energy has the task – together with Science and Philosophy and other branches of speculative intellect – to enlighten human existence and it must never become an instrument of greed (which often flourishes in the “art markets”) but it must be over all a source of spiritual evolution for men.

3) Univerticalism wants to become a new and different element which might push men to a higher level of conscience and observation of “Reality”; this may in turn help us understand how peace and harmony are at the basis of existence, where love and respect for all diversities are the fundamental element on which the evolution of life is based. Univerticalism is also the hope that the present instant might lose its past and future connotations and in a continuous development become the expression of the “Transformation”, in the sense of the normal process that leads humanity towards their own self’s eternity.

4) Every particle in the universe is in continuous transformation and it is linked to the others because it has the Whole in itself, that is all the endless particles which represent it in the infinite dimensions. In other words, everything contains everything else. We therefore declare that we are always in relation with all living and non-living entities. There exist invisible links which connect all of us and nothing and nobody in the universe is isolated or manifests itself autonomously. Everything is closely linked and correlated to everything else and has a meaning in connection to something or somebody which is around us. The Univerticalist vision of the “Reality” brings us closer to the realisation that an objective point of view does not exist, but there always is an eternally relative point of view.
Einstein taught us, through the theory of relativity, that time and space are not absolute values, they are always relative. Moreover some scientists have discovered that under certain conditions some subatomic particles are able to communicate with each other instantaneously independently from the distance which separate them, be it ten billion kilometres or ten metres. In particular, David Bohm was convinced, through the experiments carried out by Alain Aspect, which defined the bond among subatomic particles as non-local, that the reason why these particles keep their bond irrespective of the distance between them depends on the fact that this distance is only an illusion. He claimed that, at a deeper level, these particles are non individual entities but extensions of the same fundamental “organism”. According to Bohm the behaviour of these subatomic particles clearly shows that there is a level of reality we are not conscious of, a dimension that overcomes ours, where everything is connected. The electrons of a carbon atom in the human brain are connected to the subatomic particles of any salmon that swims, to any heart that beats, and to any stars that shines in the sky; all nature is nothing but a huge uninterrupted net. Even time and space would not be fundamental principles any more. Since concepts like place are destroyed in a universe where nothing is really separated from the rest, even time and three-dimensional space should be interpreted as simple projections of a more complex system. At its deepest level reality is nothing but a sort of super-hologram where past, present and future coexist simultaneously. The Universe is then the manifestation of the Energy-Thought and in its essence It is the endless repetition of the same identical thing, which expresses itself in multiple forms. The whole is the One and vice versa: this is the infinite quality of the Universe, certainly not in the conception of the space-time dimension, which would limit it. The Eternity and the Universe are expressions of pure thought, through which everything can be done, and only through meditation and spiritual elevation it is possible to enter other dimensional levels, which can help us in the understanding of our “Self-Universe”.

5) We profess Peace, the cult of non-violence as the only universally recognized method capable of overcoming any social, ideological, political and religious barrier; this is the way for men to climb the first step of a staircase which will be able to lead to a superior level of life, where the brotherhood of people can infuse new life on this planet.

6) The Univerticalist Art – fruit of our minds – is property of everybody since it is pure Thought, Creating Energy, and its language has a delicate task as its final goal: to be a stimulus towards good to be able to overcome one’s physical limits through the “Extra Dimensions”
.
7) We Univerticalist Extraterrestrial Artists represent the transition from a typical human culture to an “Extra” one. We define the necessary change so that man can have a multidimensional vision of life, which can reveal itself in any possible shape and form. We foresee the meeting of human culture with “Extra” cultures. Life reveals itself in all the infinite universes and it is absurd to think that man is the only intelligent form of life. Scientists have the same opinion, and they look for the existence of other intelligence through radio telescopes. You have only to think about the SETI project (Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence), a NASA organization which has been working in this direction for 25 years.

8) We Univerticalist Artists belong and come from that expression of time which is usually defined as “future” and in this present moment we are the expression of “Transformation” and “Renewal”.

9) Our Movement encloses all realities, all spaces, all times in a single moment, with the Universal and transcendent language typical of Univerticalist Art.

1) How and why our movement was born

Our movement was born from a common desire and a common meeting of ideas on art and life in general. The word Univerticalism is composed by “Universal” and “Vertical” and was born with the aim to observe life around us in a totally innovative way, opposed to the traditional, horizontal and gravitational one. It is the desire to add a new element to the wide survey of contemporary art. It springs from a deep reflection on art and the use of the expressive means. It is the realisation that we cannot change the world through wars, but we can do a revolution with ideas, and therefore art – as an expression of thought – is the vehicle through which we can act to transform the world around us culturally. The Univerticalism is indeed a synonym of – or it may be intended as – Artistic Revolutionary Extraterrestrial Movement.

2) The subject and the aim of our research

The subject of our research is addressed to the investigation of the different and deepest aspects of “Reality”. With this word we don’t only mean the relation that we have with the actual manifestation of everything which surrounds us, but also – through the projection of man in space in a 360° vision – a new, different alternative, both physical and spiritual. It becomes a mental space and the starting point of a research which aims at enlightening and questioning different aspects connected to Dimensions. There are many themes we wish to face, among which the linguistic-expressive element – meant as the technical experimentation – has a fundamental importance. Container and content are a single set, physical and spiritual, whose aim is to question and talk to the observer; therefore this one becomes integral and active part of the work of art. Nothing has an “absolute” meaning, but only “relative” to the possibility of interaction between the parts at play, in constant movement on the stage of life, where we are the main actors. Consequently, Art is a means which lets us reveal other realities which are difficult to perceive – but which belong to the whole – and therefore it lets us go beyond the dimension in which we live, as it were a door open to the Universe through which we can understand the infinite and multiform aspects of Existence. Art, therefore, as a “means” and not as an “aim”. From this point of view, our actions are not different from those of a scientist, a philosopher or a mystic. If art is the means, the work of art is the broadcaster which speaks. At planning stage the process of devising, identification, and research sublimates through the creative act in a dimension outside space, time and reality. It is the soul which prints its colours, its shapes, its notes on that broadcaster of positivity which will interact with the beneficiary, who, in turn, will modify the work of art, the codes, to write, paint, play his or her own “status vitalis”, which is essence and energy in continuous transformation searching its own Self. Light and colours capture our senses permitting us to glimpse and perceive a possible and different world, which can be real if we are able to understand that it is not something to own or conquer but simply the whole we also belong to. In fact we are part of other things as they are part of us. We are all forms of energy: there will be harmony only when we perceive inside ourselves the endless beat of the Universe. Let us not permit the last flower to burn, let us free our soul to the wind and be carried away by life.
In this way art – besides being an open door – becomes a gift. A gift to give, a gift to receive. As if it were a magical game which has the power to tune into the “Extra Dimensions” where anybody can perceive the immensity of the role that his or her tiny existence has in the Whole.
Therefore the aim of our research is to stimulate the audience to widen their possible horizons, to develop their single existence and to place them correctly in the great cosmic universal project, which we are not always able to catch, closed as we are in the grip of everyday life. Widening our horizons will permit us to improve our lives, giving to any act, to any choice a fundamental importance in the universal inlay of existence, enlightening the incalculable positive potentiality which might spring from them. “Ombra su terra rossa” (“Shadow on red earth”), “Omaggio a Kandinsky” (“Homage to Kandinsky”), “Piove, Solitaire” (“It rains, Solitaire”), “Sfasciacarrozzecampodigrano” (“Carwreckerwheatfield”), “La betoniera” (“The concrete mixer”), “Il nostro magma quotidiano” (“Our daily magma”) are only some of the titles of our work. Images which become moments, small fragments, like particles, of something that we are going to create with effort and much love, looking for those broadcasters of positivity, shape, colour, notes, thought and energy, where our souls can run free in the wind catching, from time to time, the tesserae of an endless mosaic. What we submit to you through our work are not our works of art, but the possibility for a different world, which can exist only if all of us want it. We only need to believe in it!

3) Colour spiritual energy

Without light there is no life! This wonderful star which heats our planet permits a large number of living beings, both animal and vegetal, to live and evolve. Man, among all the animal species, is provided with the greatest mind, ability to organise, abstract reasoning, language, introspection, communication, complex social structures and rules of behaviour. Therefore man – more than any other animals – has the responsibility of life on the earth, since we have the ability to transform the environment around us. But the sun, besides life, permits us to perceive reality through a large number of chromatic shades. We Univerticalists think that each person is above all a being endowed with its own light, even though this life, this energy is not perceivable by our sense. The Universticalist artist, more than anyone else, is able to organize and translate this spiritual energy and light through colour in the physicality of the work of art. Our works express, through their chromatism and shape, this concept, becoming what we call “broadcasters of positivity”.

4) The basic idea of our works

We have voluntarily called ourselves “Univerticalists” because in the chaos of more or less valid proposals of contemporary art, we wish to stand out and be recognisable both for the container and the content of our proposal. Our signature is circular not for a whim, but simply because our works can be observed from a 360° angle without losing balance and harmony, thus respecting our idea that life is in continuous transformation and movement. We also define ourselves extraterrestrial artists because our 360° point of view lies outside the Earth. No more a horizontal relation with the apparent reality inevitably limited by gravity, but vertical. A verticality lived not from the bottom to the top, but from the top to the bottom. In this way we can have a different and wider perspective of reality around us, to observe life with a new, different eye. We might say that this new vision is an expedient that permits us to put the observer in the space. The aim is to make the public perceive the possibility of a new and different dimensionality. A dimensionality which is not only physical, but spiritual as well. It is the possibility to watch from outside to see the inside better; it is the possibility to restore man to a righter relationship with space; it is the possibility to perceive the “Extra Dimensions”, the Whole in the One and vice versa; it is the possibility of the “Transformation” that leads humanity towards the eternity of its Self. It is clear that this new vision is not limited to the representation of the apparent world seen from above, but it opens to endless expressive potentialities. You cannot put a limit to something which is in continuous transformation, like art and life. The 360° vision from above is only a starting point.

5) The choice of a classical language to express new things

It is easy to fall in the trap of the passing fashion, and we have often wondered what is the bet way to represent our ideas, our thought, at the same time trying to be innovative, without betraying ourselves in the attempt to reach easy goals. What importance can an artistic language have compared to another? And above all, to what extent is any artistic language understood by its beneficiary? Is it so important that the beneficiary understand the work, or it is sufficient to provoke an emotion? These and many other questions have arisen in our thoughts, meeting endless dancing dialogues. Starting from the presumption that the spirituality leaves a deeper mark than the language used to convey it, and considering that paintings have fascinated and involved humanity since it showed up on Earth, we have decided to start with painting as the expressive means to give shape to our ideas.

6) Themes

The world cannot be stopped, it goes on by itself, in good or evil it goes on. We Univerticalist artists catch simple frames of life in its development. These are the representation of a changing world and of an era with its contradictions; Of an uncontaminated nature and of a densely inhabited nature; Of man’s work in the fields, of the relation between concrete and green, of pollution, of the rebellion of nature to a wrong use of the environment: tornadoes, floods, inundations. Of the continuous renovation of nature, while what man does is doomed to death. But also of more painful aspects which have been marking the progress of humanity in the course of history, such as “Holocaust” and “Common burials”, tragic pages in human life, which teach us the uselessness of war and the necessity of “Peace”. They teach us how evil must be defeated if we want to progress to cover with a newer light this spaceship of Earth, of which we should have the outmost respect.

7) On life and art

In this peculiar historical moment, while the world goes towards the zeroing of the essential values of life, towards the deprivation and the depletion of human and spiritual resources, towards a levelling of single natures of thoughts and will, for a personal selfish interest, disguised as freedom and democracy, art has the precise moral value to help humanity towards their redemption, to help it along the road to spiritual elevation in sight of a better future.
Now more than ever art has to provide the instruments for the dissolution of all the negativity in which we are tangled up and which pushes us towards an inevitable eternal chasm, which may seem gratifying in the immediate present, but it is poisonous in a not too far future.
Humanity has always felt the need to satisfy all their philosophical and spiritual questions, it has always tried to find certainties in the values of their own existence, in the existence of the Universe; however, the solution given by various religions, by politics, by economic and media powers have fundamentally been negative, in order to create a stricter and stricter addition and an incapability of reasoning. The negativities of all the forms of power, which have determined the lack of primary goods for life, have only created confusion and pain.
We human beings have had a fabulous precious material in our hands, a spiritual material to reflect on, a material from which we can make progress and improvements spring, but we have spoilt it. What can we tell our children, animals, all nature? How can we explain the present condition of degeneration of our environment, but admitting that from now on we have to commit ourselves to peace and spirituality without any delays, any second thoughts, to avoid in the consequent and logical process of annihilation of our species and our world?
It is necessary that all the aspects of knowledge refer synergistically to the revision of culture. As it happens and happened in the past with the changeover of a war industry when it became useless at the end of the conflict – we have to do with our efforts towards the progress. We have to realise that a progress which can improve the quality of our existence cannot exist without a similar spiritual evolution. We can simply think of one of the most negative aspects of the progress, the nuclear fission, the atom bomb, to understand how delicate and fragile is this balance today. Many movements, which say they are pacifist and non-violent, very often propose the solution of conflicts through other violence.
On the other hand, our movement, which is intrinsically pacifist, proposes the conscience of peace, refuses the imposition of the self-interest to the detriment of generosity, asserts the value of the Creative Energetic Thought which everyone owns, in the respect of the unique characteristics which produce it, in a cosmic brotherhood beyond the simple physicality.
Why not enjoy the wonders of life, the opportunity to concur with our own presence to the path towards spiritual maturation and happiness for everybody? Why not accept to be fundamental pawns on the chessboard of a cosmic game where evil is inevitable but changeable through the force of love?
Our art permit us to abandon those mental superstructures which entrap us in obscure mechanisms. With its simplicity and immediacy of interpretation it is clear in itself without any external help, because we are convinced that art – in its universality – should be understood by everybody, independently from one’s culture, education, difference of experiences, so to trigger a reflection through our creative energetic thought.
We believe that the container, which appears simple in its immediacy, has to hide inside a content rich in those spiritual values of the creative energy-thought which pervades everything and talks to the soul, since we also communicate through matter.
We observe, we devise, we create our work of art, in which we dive, in the vision and perception of a continually changing and transforming global reality.
We create the new notes, the new colours, and you operate on them to look for your harmony, your creative energy, your thought, your soul as energetic form which is part if the infinite Self. Only broadcasting art through the “broadcasters of positivity” we can reach in our world a higher level of spirituality.
Our Univerticalist Extraterrestrial Art wants to be a “broadcaster of positivity” through which everybody has the opportunity to create their own Self in a continuous dialogue with their own soul in a harmonious game through which it may be possible to reach the awareness to be part of the whole, to be Creative Energy Thought.
Modern art broke with tradition and refused the classical idea of the aesthetic beauty; with it we had the realization of the doubts and lacerations of science, culture, philosophy and religion. As long as it determined these strong feelings of impatience for the alienating aspects of modern reality, modern art had large consent and left its mark on an important historical period. After that, a decadent period has begun, during which art transformed in a mere expression of the absurd and the informal, with a total indifference for the content.
Today art in all its manifestations has really exhausted its positive energy: to follow the continuous research of the new, without any reference to any principle of value, art has exhausted its creative forms. Sometimes an extemporary invention, a cue, are misinterpreted as art, but no objective criterion of evaluation exists any more: therefore any scribbles can be mistaken for a masterpiece.
This deep crisis of art is a disturbing signal of a really serious uneasiness.
Therefore art today is facing an unavoidable choice, that of regaining its function of stimulus for the good, for the improvement of the immaterial essence of life, for the appreciation of its beauty and the perfection of its forms, its colours, its sounds. It must therefore be the means through which the humanity can overcome their physical limits, investigating through the “Extra Dimensions” a deeper and truer reality, which can help them to understand the true essence of Life. Art, Science, Spirituality are three different faces of the same thing and they open to us, at their meeting point, the possibility of the Infinite.
